00:07 Across Australia, this is Nights with John Stanley. 00:13 Good evening, everyone. Welcome along. Welcome to Wednesday night. It's a night where a lot of the news is not all that flash after today's inflation numbers. And I've been listening there to the Money News program. And if you were listening to last... It seemed to us last night we were talking about the data centres and the growth of these data centres. They're going up everywhere. People are starting to notice the impact it's having on construction. For instance, they're pushing up the price of materials and construction because there's so much of it going on around the place. 00:44 And then there's the question of what's going to do. with power prices and then the very concept of this huge advance. 00:51 And we did allude last night to some of the chips that are being used in a lot of this stuff. And there's a shortage because it's growing like Topsy. 01:01 And then we've got these inflation numbers today. No surprise that the thing that was top of the list was an annual increase 23.6% fuel, fuel for your car, petrol. But then you had games, toys and hobbies where a lot of these PlayStations, all of the things that require any sort of a computer chip, prices are up by 15.5%. 01:23 And then you've got electricity up by over 12%, fruit up by more than 10%. I found it intriguing, tobacco up by 8.3%. It does raise questions about how these inflation numbers are done, because do they take into account the illegal tobacco? Or are you saying, well, tobacco's gone up? 01:44 But we're told that at least half the people who are smoking these days are smoking the very cheap illegal cigarettes. So I'm not sure how that factors into all of that. We'll talk a bit about that tonight, the politics around it, and the growing consensus now that there needs to be substantial cuts in government spending. Angus Taylor outlined a range of things that he wants to do today. Our News Hour guest will be here to talk about that. And it does raise some questions about whether... With all of that pressure, you might look at a government which will see what the opposition's proposing and other people are proposing and thinks, all right, we can do that, we can do that, we can do that, because we're going to get support for it. 02:24 You'd like to think so. And you did hear, of course, as Clinton was finishing up money news, played that little clip of the Treasurer saying, doesn't think inflation will get back into that band of 2% to 3%. 02:36 until the end of next year. So there's going to be a lot of inflation around the place. There's a lot of uncertain things happening around the place. We'll talk about that shortly. We'll keep across... 02:56 Any developments coming out of Israel, 24 hours on. They are continuing to count and they're using a lot of these exit polls. It does look like it's something of a deadlock there. There's a lot at stake as to whether Benjamin Netanyahu can put together a coalition and keep himself as Prime Minister. There are other factors in all of this. He has been facing continued calls, really in particular... As time's gone on since October 7, since the terror attack for a commission of inquiry, if you think about what happened here, the pressure for a royal commission into the security failures in particular that led to what happened in Bondi involving two people, yet over a thousand people involved in a horrific terror attack on Israel, massive, massive security failure, the most sophisticated intelligence agency in the world, you'd assume Mossad, And you have had just in the last couple of months across a range of news outlets, a lot of them conservative news outlets in the US, reporting that both Egypt and Qatar had warned Benjamin Netanyahu and his advisers of a major Hamas operation. 04:07 on the boil a couple of weeks before it happened. And all the other parties in the election have been saying, well, we need a commission of inquiry into this to establish what happened, what happened in the lead up and how it could have happened. So that's going to be at stake as well in relation to who takes over. But the likelihood is it'll stay on. 04:24 And it is actually a... An interesting example, where are we going? Because we've got our political, everything's fracturing. We've got all the parties now under 30% primary vote in most of the polls. 04:39 Labor and One Nation are in the high 20s. Coalition's starting to push up a little bit. In some polls, the Greens have got about 15%. So you might, if you've got four, at least four parties, dividing up the vote, you have the prospect of something like what's happened in Israel. Perhaps down the track for us, we have a federal election where no one's got a majority and they're trying to cobble together some sort of a coalition, but that's a long way down the track. A lot's been said about the the Merrickville Golf Club announcement, just on that announcement and where it's going and whether there was a septic aspect to it, which there obviously wasn't, and the Prime Minister said in the Parliament that there was. 05:28 If you go back to the whole thing where it all began, it began because the Rutherglen Golf Club in Helen Haynes electorate saw that Marrickville was getting a grant and they said to her, well, did we have a chance of a grant? Because they've got an asbestos fill clubhouse and the like. And they said, well, she looked into it and said, no, this program is actually invitation only. 05:51 And so you didn't have a chance. You had to be invited to pitch for it. And so she looked into it and she got an investigation underway. And that's how this whole thing got into the public domain. But it is worth noting that I think it might have been a year ago she moved a private members bill in the parliament. moving that these kind of grants programs be scrapped. The federal government shouldn't be giving money away in this way. It shouldn't be giving money to golf clubs. It's something that the state government or local council does. 06:23 So she moved to motion and the major parties all said, no, no, thanks. They voted against it. So bear that in mind when you hear a lot of the stuff you're hearing at the moment about Helen Haynes and what a wonderful MP she is. But when she puts forward something like that, which is not political in terms of left or right, they run a mile. 131873 is the number. But our News Hour guest tonight is Jamie Rogers. She's a host on News 24. She's a former candidate for the Liberal Party. She's a regular with us and she's an ideas person as well as being on the board of the North Sydney Rugby League Club. 07:39 Hello, John Stanley. Hello to all of your listeners. 07:42 How are you? Well, I'm well, but I just want to, can we do this and we'll pull it together pretty quickly. 07:48 Just quickly, we'll hear, you've heard it a few times. This is Jim Chalmers, what he had to say today about inflation and an element of it is the war in the Middle East with petrol prices, but that's one element of it. This is what he had to say. 08:01 We had an inflation challenge in our economy, but this war in the Middle East is absolutely turbocharging those cost of living pressures. 08:09 And that's a point made by both of those decision makers in the course of today. 08:13 And he did say we did have an inflation challenge. That's the point. And the problem for him is that people are doing comparisons with the rest of the world. So that... early inflation challenge that was already there, which would have been created by the high government spending, is then being turbocharged. So Angus Taylor, this is where I think Angus Taylor is going to be front and centre in terms of how he handles all of this. He was on the Michael McLaren show on much of our network this afternoon. He was talking about Jim Chalmers and the government spending. So have a listen to that. 08:44 Look, he said last year that the worst of the inflation challenge is now well and truly behind us. That's what he said. And the Prime Minister last year said, we've dealt with inflation. It's now down with the two in front. That's what they said. They said it was over. And now, of course, now, of course. 09:01 They're looking around for who to blame. Well, I know who to blame. It's pretty simple. They are spending too much money. They've lost control of spending on crazy green hydrogen projects, billions of dollars on welfare programs for non-Australians. 09:18 I mean, we should be restricting our welfare support to Australian citizens. But this government, it's got its priorities wrong. And the reality is, the result of that is that we are paying more for everything. Yes. 09:33 And look, he did say, this is the Treasurer earlier in the week, give us your ideas for cutting spending. Now, Angus Taylor has unveiled a whole range of things that he says could be done. So I'll just play you a bit more of that interview with Michael McLaren and we'll go to Jamie on this. Have a listen. 09:48 Well, the most important thing that can be done is to stop spending money at the rate that the government's been spending it. And Jim Chalmers asked for a list of ideas as to how he could cut spending? Well, we've given him $31 billion worth, $9.4 billion from Axing Labor's climate bureaucracy, the net zero economy agency. It's scope three ridiculous emissions reporting requirements. $7.3 billion handouts to big companies like the green hydrogen madness that even Chris Bowen's now admitting is not working. 10:23 $4.7 billion on failed housing programs that aren't building any new houses, and a couple of billion dollars of welfare in NDIS for non-Australians. Can you believe this, Michael? The Australian taxpayer is funding welfare payments for non-citizens, 17 different welfare programs, the NDIS home deposit schemes, This is a scandal and we will end it. Jim Chalmers should end it now. 10:51 So he's identifying a whole range of things. Jim Chalmers is going to be coming out with the program and cuts later in the year. So is there anything in any of that that they could look at and think, we can now do that because they support it, we'll be able to get it through the Senate and it needs to be done? 11:10 Is it kind of helping? Because in the end, it's in all of our interest that it happened. 11:13 I don't think so because Barnaby Joyce actually asked this in question time to the Prime Minister whether they would abolish the climate change department and bank the billions of dollars and Albanese stood up there and said that he's not a denier of climate change and it's a real thing and then he went on to this massive tangent about how we need to prepare for future climate issues like bushfires and floods and that sort of thing so based off that response I can't see them taking many of these suggestions from the coalition but I think that it's good that Angus Taylor has come out with this because he can start to show voters that there is a strong credible alternative and this is the plan that they're going to put forward and target wasteful spending, corporate welfare, and also Labor's expanding bureaucracy, because that's an enormous problem, John, when you see the public sector growing significantly faster than the private sector. 12:10 It's around 44,000 jobs have been created in the public sector under Labor since they came in in 2022. That's extraordinary. And we're all paying for that. Are we getting our bang for our buck? 12:21 Well, this is the point, because what was said, and it was true, a lot of things that were being done by, say, public servants in home affairs, other areas, they were cut back by the previous government, and then they brought in consultants from KPMG and these outfits that took the taxpayer for a ride, and we know that. And some of those waiting lists in visas processing and the rest blew right out. So the presumption was, OK, let's get people back in who know what they're doing into the department. So they got the staff back in, but the consultants are still... It's still there. 12:52 So they haven't actually cut numbers. They've added to the numbers. 12:55 And they're at record spending for consultants too. That's incredible. Let's not forget that Jim Chalmers, I actually posted a video of this just recently where Jim Chalmers said, we are going to be cutting back on consultants. because we want to be doubling up on the work. They haven't done that. They've increased it and they are now spending record numbers because it was already high under the Morrison government. But then the Albanese government has gone even further than that. Instead of cutting it, they've increased it to record levels while also growing the public sector by huge amounts too. 13:27 So we're just throwing money everywhere. And so that is a place that you could easily be cutting back. 13:32 I spoke to someone yesterday who told me he'd started driving an electric car. Now, the truth is, when you start driving an electric car, they're fantastic. They work well. They move beautifully. This guy was saying, absolutely fantastic. And I said to him, is it an evaded lease? And he said, yes, it is. Would you have got it if you didn't have a novated lease and a subsidy? He said, no, I wouldn't have. Would you get it now, knowing what you know now, without the novated lease? He said, absolutely. So he could afford it. 14:04 So he didn't need the government subsidy. 14:05 This is the problem. And this is what was making the paper today in the AFR, where Jim Chalmers could save $2.1 billion by axing this EV subsidy over three years. And it's worth noting that we have already spent 15 times more than what was forecast originally when this was put forward. And it began in 2022. But the Productivity Commission has also said to the Albanese government, end this. End this subsidy. It is not good value for taxpayer money. 14:36 But to your point, almost one in three who have taken up this subsidy earns more than $190,000 a year. So they're referring to it as the subsidy for the rich because a lot of people who would potentially be utilising this subsidy would have gone and bought the car without that. 14:51 And I can't help... That's because prices have come down now. 14:53 Well, yes, but I also can't help... 14:56 John, for a lot of your listeners, I went out to Victoria Barracks to the rally on the weekend and have been quite vocal in trying to help with whatever way we can to stop the sale of these defence assets. Anyway, you read articles like this, and we could be saving $2.1 billion by axing this subsidy, of which the government's not going to do, and yet they're so happy just to flog off defence assets that are irreplaceable for a similar kind of money. And so when you read that, I just think their priorities are so wrong. And it's a real slap in the face at times when we're trying to save something that means a lot to so many people and strategically. 15:34 And you could... 15:36 Maybe balance it by just getting rid of this subsidy, but they won't entertain it. 15:39 Because I'll look at that. Now, the battery, the home battery subsidy. So, hand batteries is one of the most successful programs ever. So, people have bought it because it's subsidised. And it means that I know someone who used to pay hundreds of dollars a quarter and their bill's now a couple of bucks. because they've obviously paid the capital investment, but it's been subsidised. But people can afford that. And we had last night, we had Bruce Mountain on talking about how the next big subsidy program is for solar panels and batteries on industrial sites, schools, shopping centres, like the Norellan shopping centre, where most of their power comes from the battery and the solar panels. 16:21 Of course... of course they're predicting that it's going to cost X number of dollars. And Bruce Mountain's saying it's going to cost 20, 30, 40, 50 times that because if you're, say, an industrial site or a business that's got a lot of roofs and you can actually get a subsidised harvest of solar panels and a battery, you're going to leap at it, aren't you? Who's going to not take that? No, exactly. And it's going to be good for them, but it's going to blow that program right out. 16:50 But it goes back to the point that the green transition that we are currently full steam ahead on. I actually came across this article, John, a few days ago in the Japan Times, and the headline was Australia's transition to green energy is a warning to the rest of the world. And this article is literally saying that we are wasting our natural resources and the ability to have coal, uranium, coal, But we've closed down our coal-fired power stations without actually having a backup of this baseload power. 17:26 And so we end up having to do all these subsidies, try and keep our smelters open, subsidise batteries to try and encourage people to do it. But we're still paying for that. Wonderful. And it just doesn't make sense. And we've got to get to a point where we start having a proper conversation about how much more money do we throw at this? Because it's not working. We're all paying very high energy prices. I know you were saying some of the people that you know, but it's costing a lot of money and we're losing manufacturing along the way. And if families are having to choose between heating and eating, something's wrong. 17:56 Because the fellow we had on last night, he was saying, well, gas. I mean, this is what's supposed to happen. It's supposed to be gas. Gas, you can turn it on, you can turn it off, you can put it in there. We've got plenty of gas there. You can use gas plants to then provide the peaking instead of pumped hydro, which in theory sounds great until you start to think and hear these experts talking about it. Wow. 18:17 Well, in Victoria, they're having to reopen one of their gas exploration sites that hasn't been used for 20 years because of the concern that they're going to end up having blackouts, high energy prices within the next three years because they don't have the resources to be able to support their energy demand. 18:34 Let's just take Mark, who's – I know one of our regular listeners. He's called in. Mark, what did you want to say? 18:40 Hi, mate. Look, I'm glad there's a politician on with you tonight. 18:46 Look, I've just... Well, look, she ran for Parliament and she's now a presenter on News 24, but she's open about the fact that she's a member of the Liberal Party still, so go on anyway. Go on, Mark. Oh, well, good luck to you. Thank you. The difficulty is the term politician's become a dirty word. That's the problem, isn't it? 19:04 It has. 19:04 But go on, Mark. I want to hear what you have to say. 19:06 My issue with the political class on this is that The way you got, well, the way they speak to each other in Parliament, if John and I were working together and we spoke to each other that way, we'd be on our bikes, we'd be dismissed. 19:22 Yep. 19:23 You have politicians, they turn down the temperature. I'd like to see, when you talk about leadership, how you talk to each other, how you debate each other, because we seem to be divided on gender now, we seem to be divided on generational wealth. We seem to be divided on, severely divided on immigration now. And the debates are vicious. And that's moved into the public square. 19:56 And you know mark you see mark you do a little bit here and i just we've been divided before on many issues in the past i won't go into but as many but not like this not on so many fronts and it seems that ideology Seems to get in the way of good policy. And I remember back to the Accord when Labor and Hawke and Keating and the unions and business got together and they did something useful for the country and they put it on the right track. 20:28 Yeah. 20:30 Mark, I appreciate that. And one thing about that, look, he wasn't always on board, but John Howard was the opposition leader and a lot of those ideas were ideas he'd wanted to do when he was treasurer and Malcolm Fraser wouldn't let him. So he supported a lot of that stuff. And because of that, I think because there was that sense that there was a broad church behind it, including John Howard, I think that's why a lot of that stuff happened back in the 80s. 20:55 Mark does make a very good point. And it's something that actually came up a few times during the last election where I had quite a few very big burly men coming and yelling in my face. And I remember reporting back to just a few people and they said to me... What do you expect? Look at the behaviour within the chamber in Parliament House and the way that everyone speaks to one another. That is how people think that they can just come and talk to you because you're all abusing each other in Parliament House. So they then feel as though, you know what, that's how you all talk to each other. 21:25 I'm going to come and abuse you. I don't condone it, but I think Mark is spot on that people see that behaviour and think that that is then okay. 21:33 I've got another thought on that, which I'll park until a bit later in the hour because I want to take a break. I want to come back and I want to do something, just a little injection of positivity. We need that. And we're going to share someone's good fortune. And I'm always wondering whether when someone wins the lottery or something, do you go, well, but you kind of feel, oh, I wish that was me. But I think this is a good news story for someone I really like. And you know them. I do too. And you know this is a dream. It's amazing. We know the Reserve Bank's going to raise interest rates, but a half hour later is the Melbourne Cup. 22:18 I'll say this, my birthday falls in Melbourne Cup week. And so if you're a kid, I've always loved the Melbourne Cup, always loved it. And like a lot of people who are into racing, I've always had this thought, wouldn't it be great to have a runner in the Melbourne Cup? Jamie Rogers, your background, of course, in racing, you know racing inside out. 22:36 I do. 22:37 You know how big it is to have a runner in the Melbourne Cup. It's huge. 22:39 I mean, you're happy if your horse even gets to the races. Most horses don't even get a start once you've bought a share in one. So to get to any race, I'm happy if mine get to Wyong or Gosford or anywhere, really. 22:54 Which brings us to our former colleague here who was a high-profile name on Channel 9, Chris O'Keefe. His better half is Yvonne Sampson from Fox Sports who hosts the rugby league on Fox Sports. And you've seen a story earlier in the year that they'd bought into a horse and they'd gone over to Ascot to look at the horse. And I saw this picture of O'Keefe with a top hat. They looked amazing. And the horse apparently had qualified for the cup. So it was only a week and a half ago I thought, I wonder how that – where's that horse – It's one of the favourites. 23:25 At that stage, it was favourite for the Cup. And, of course, I've rung O'Keefe and said, I'm so happy for you, mate. But he knew that I was saying, I'm so happy for you, mate, but I wish it was me. And you wish it was you, don't you? 23:37 Absolutely. It's what racing dreams are made of. 23:40 So Chris is with us now. I think, Chris, it was Vonnie, wasn't it, that led the charge on this? 23:46 All things good in my life have occurred because of Vonnie, John. All things good. 23:51 So there's a story, isn't there? Because this is a horse in England, trained by the great Joseph O'Brien. So how did you get into it? What happened? 24:00 Well, Darby, our second boy, was born, what, July last year. So, you know, we're in the throes of things with the newborn phase. And Vonnie, so her grandfather was a racehorse trainer, Roy Morris. And he trained at Warwick Farm, and he had a stud out at the Oaks, and then moved up to Queensland, and That's when Bonnie came along as the granddaughter. But anyway, so she's grown up around racehorses and she rode equestrian. Loves horses. Loves, loves, loves, loves horses. And she's always wanted to go to Royal Ascot. Always. And as long as I've known her, that's what she's wanted to do. 24:31 So I got home. I think it was... 24:35 I'd been out somewhere and it was Cox Plate Day and she was... 24:39 feeding Darby, and Darby was a couple of months old and Henry was running around like a three-year-old does, and she says, I've just got this email here from Australian Bloodstock, the syndicator. 24:51 They reckon they've got a horse here in Ireland. It's a stayer, and it's going to race at Royal Ascot, and they reckon it's a Melbourne Cup chance. And I just, you know, rolled my arms, as you do. But in the throes of a... 25:05 new mother, a newborn and a toddler. There are times, John, you know, as a husband, it pays not to say no to things. 25:14 And in this case, I said, oh, okay, let's do it then. Why not? Why not? She showed me the videos and He looked like a reasonable stay. And we've had heaps of racehorses, heaps. 25:25 And a lot of people go through this and nothing ever comes of it. 25:29 Oh, we've had plenty of three-year-olds and we've had great fun doing it. I think we had a... The best we've ever had was, I remember it was 45 degrees two days before Christmas on a Wednesday at Bathurst. And it was a horse called Hellsonic with Richard and Will Friedman. And that's the only horse that we've had, and we've had probably, I don't know, a dozen of them, that's done any good, right? That's right. So we finally said, we're going to do something different and buy an Irish stayer. So we had Joseph O'Brien, and I just went, okay, well, you know, let's just do this. So off we went, and it has been the most extraordinary experience, and not to push their barrow too hard, but like Australian Bloodstock, the guys, like they had Gold Tripp, they had Protectionists, they've won Melbourne Cups, they've had Bravesmash, they've had some very, very good horses. 26:15 And the fact that we've been lucky enough to grab a share. And I don't, John, want anyone to think that, you know, we own the whole thing. We don't. 26:22 We own a little share, but enough. 26:23 It doesn't matter. As long as you've got a share in it, it's amazing. 26:27 We need to tell people the horse is called defiantly. When I first spoke to you about a week ago, it was actually the favourite. A few horses have moved in front of it, but it's still 12 to 1 at the moment. So it's one of the top chances in the cup from the great Irish trainer, You've got the top jockey on it. You're very excited, aren't you? 26:45 I am very excited. So can I tell you a quick story about Royal Ascot? So we went over there. Bonnie's always wanted to do it. We were lucky enough to go over there with, you know, some reasonable tickets. 26:56 And I met His Majesty. 26:59 Oh, wow. Yeah. 27:02 And you know how I met him? 27:03 How? 27:04 I had a couple of peronies, and I screamed across the Royal Enclosure... 27:10 Your Majesty, Australia. And then had the top hat and tipped the top hat to him. And he came over and said, G'day. And Camilla was there. Wow. And we had a, you know, the finally was 50 to one that day. And he came second in a developed sprint over 4,100 metres in the Ascot Stakes. 27:30 And we were like, oh, this is extraordinary. Then next thing you know, he races at Gloria's Goodwood, 4,000 metres and won by six or seven lengths. 27:39 And then it was just a throw at the stumps. They said, look, it's a golden ticket race, winner you're in. So if he wins the race, he gets into the Melbourne Cup automatically. It's a relationship they've got in France with racing Victoria. He races in the Pre-Kergolais. 27:54 We didn't know how we'd go because he was coming back to 3,000 metres. They thought, oh, this thing is a bit dour, probably more of a jump source. So exciting. And then he rolls around and won by six lengths in a 3,000 metre race. 28:11 and the jockey on board is dylan brown mcmoneagle he's 23 years old he's from ireland and he's coming straight from the breeders cup in america monday afternoon to then roll around on uh defiantly on on melbourne cup day so we can cannot wait like it is an extraordinary experience my dad my family are in the horse as well so like we've got the we've got the whole works happening we're going to call her the card god knows what will happen there but we're really looking forward now jamie knows this because on saturday night they do the barrier draw for the cup and someone who's an owner has to go out and do it do the business what's happening oh well there's a uh The rugby league types are taking on the Victorian racing types because Vonnie is lucky enough to draw the barrier for defiantly. 29:01 Hey, Jamie, she almost said no. Because there is a lot of pressure. It's nerve-rushing. I'm a big Irish stayer who's a little slow out of the gate. 29:12 You do not want to blow up. 29:15 Oh, Chris, you won't sleep, mate, will you? It's so exciting. 29:17 When do you head to Melbourne? 29:19 We'll go Saturday. So we're taking the boys down. Like, our two kids will go down. You know, my mum and dad are driving down tomorrow via Albury. I've got aunties. We've got uncles. 29:30 We've got every bloody one going down. So we cannot wait. Like, this is... You know, people are involved in racing for lifetimes. And we've seen it with our, you know, family members of ours who... 29:42 trained horses and made a good living out of it all and had good times and bad times and you don't even get anywhere near a Melbourne Cup and for us to experience what we are right now and be going on the journey gets quite emotional because it is a really beautiful thing and we were only talking about it the other day on Sunday over a glass of wine there will be millions of children in schools all around Australia drawing defiantly in the school sweep. Yes, in the sweep. That is so cool. That is so cool because we all did it as kids. Yeah. Well, that's why nothing made sense. Yeah, that's right. And look, you know, I'm happy to take it that we haven't explained it properly. But we do listen, and I think that's the really important part here. It's a really, you know, it's a feature of the way we think the New South Wales government operates. We want businesses to be able to thrive in our state. We want them to be able to, you know, serve the customers that they have in the communities that love them. And, you know, when we've got it wrong, we'll change it. 35:08 Okay. He's talking about Mike Newman being the de facto leader of the opposition. That's a danger for the opposition, isn't it? 35:54 Well, Chris Minns has to be quick. You can't be having silly policy like this when you've got One Nation breathing down your neck. If a recent polling is to suggest there was that leaked Labor polling that showed that they believe that Chris Minns still will potentially be Premier next time, but it will be One Nation as the official opposition. 36:14 She's talking them up. And you know that when there's a debate... 36:19 And they've talked about this in Victoria. Chris Minns will say, yeah, bring on as many debates as possible. And I want Mike Newman on the stage. Now, Mike Newman's going to be making sure that he not only attacks Chris Minns, but he's going to be targeting Kelly Sloan because he wants a lot of those coalition voters. So that's the danger for her. She's got to try and fight back on this and really... 36:40 cut through if they're not going to be wiped out by one nation no and i think that that's that's key is the cut through both federally and state for the coalition is that they really need to be getting their messages out there and prosecuting on policy ideas and and kelly sloan has come out with some really great policy ideas let's not forget attacks uh doing the payroll tax was something that she brought out quite some time ago of which mike newman has also put forward But she was very strong when they uncovered that legislation where Labor had put in chest feeding instead of using the words breastfeeding. 37:11 They were strong about scrapping these cups. So I think it's just important that they keep prosecuting that case. But it is going to be very, very interesting because Mike Newman... He is impressive for One Nation. I said at the time when he was selected as the leader that One Nation were very clever in putting him in because I've actually had him on my show quite a few times, but not when he was One Nation. It was back to talk about the relationship between Australia and Japan. And you'll notice when he did his press conference being announced. He spoke in Japanese. Well, he spoke in Japanese, but he also, there was no reference to immigration. It was all about how to bring the New South Wales economy back and productivity and all of this stuff that just sort of reiterated the fact that they're not a one-show pony. 37:49 And that's the thing. I think this Victorian election will be interesting. It's not one nation territory. Not one nation, though. It's got flaky leadership, but it is compulsory preferential, so we will see where the preferences go, but I think the one that is really going to tell us something is New South Wales, where Labor's terrified about the Hunter Valley, but not just Labor, it's also the national party. 38:08 Well, there was, I think it was either Mark Levy or Michael McLaren's show today where a caller rang through who was part of a Labor focus group. And they were up at the Hunter Valley Way. And he said most people within that room were all very much One Nation. And the focus group was around to try and figure out what it is that has made them go that way. Can they come back? But this caller said that everyone was very strong on One Nation. And that's up in that sort of Cessna. In that home. 38:36 Yeah, it's going to be difficult. And again, Mike Newman, and then you can't say, well, what's his background? Well, he was a trade commissioner in Victoria. We're going to have a premier elected almost certainly, and I think probably in her own right, 36 years old, it's her first term of parliament. But they'll say, oh, she's not that experienced, but they'll look at the others and go, well, you've got this guy who looks like a kind of a weird... very strange looking guy, the Victorian Premier, and he's very wooden. 39:02 Ben. 39:03 And he's trying to pretend that he hasn't been there for the last 12 years. 39:05 Well, that's the problem. So Ben Carroll, even just today, was coming out saying that he actually is fiscally conservative. And I thought, well, that's quite a funny line to be using, considering you've been part of this government that has exploded to the $200 billion in debt that they're facing. But it's going to be very interesting. Our political landscape has certainly been shaken up. 39:25 I did want to have a bit of positivity with Chris there. It was fantastic. And they've got a small share in the horse, but enough to be there. 39:31 But that's what I always say to people. You could have the smallest of shares. It doesn't matter. But there's people, heaps of them earning money. over a million dollars. And you wonder, do we audit this and ask, what do you do? We've had these inflation figures and we hear about prices going up and a lot of you are saying, well, thanks, Scoop. Thanks, Scoop. And we're about to talk about cars and then we see the biggest mover pushing inflation up is close to 24% increase in automotive fuel, which is petrol. 40:55 And I did raise this last night on the program. I still haven't had a real answer. 41:00 Someone who's an economic nerd can ring me because if the government spent billions of dollars reducing the fuel excise, then fuel would be cheaper and therefore prices in a whole lot of things would have to go down because the inputs are down. But economists would say, well, the government's spending more money, so that's inflationary. But if prices are up, that's inflationary. And even within the numbers, they're saying here there's been a 8.3% rise in tobacco. 41:36 Now, there has been an increase in the tobacco excise, but at least half the country is smoking the illegal stuff. So is that taken into account, or are they just looking at the legal stuff? Anyway, this all goes into the mix, and it means that interest rates are going up. And if you were with us last hour, I did make an observation, and it was someone very late in the Money News program who... Sent through a note saying interest rates can go to 17%. It doesn't bother me. I haven't got a mortgage. 42:07 And so, look, it does feed into so many other things, business inputs and the like. But there is a point to that because the top end of Gen X... 42:18 And all the baby boomers, it's not everyone, a lot of people are struggling, a lot of people are struggling, but there's a significant number of people that have paid off their house, they've got a good whack of super, so they're not going to curb their spending because interest rates are up because it doesn't affect them. And so we're dealing with something that's very... 42:36 Very dodgy. 42:38 And government, in the meantime, has got huge pressure on it to cut its spending. We'll see what comes in the weeks ahead. This is the The Novated Lease. Now, I spoke to someone last 24 hours. He told me he'd just got an electric car. He could not believe it. 44:27 He loved it. And you know, the experienced people have, they are fantastic. He loves the car. And I said to him, did you get it because... Is it Novated Lease? Yes. Did you get it because of the Novated Lease? He said yes. I said, if there wasn't a Novated Lease, would you have got it? He said no. I said, knowing what you know now... Would you get it even if you couldn't get an evaded lease? And he said yes. Now, that's what Chris Richardson's point is. People can afford it. As they become more affordable, people look at them. They like them. 44:58 The $2.1 billion a year being spent on subsidising the evaded leases, that can come out of the budget. 100%. Because it's not going to have that much of an impact. 45:07 My opinion on this has been strong for a long time. I think the subsidies for electric vehicles from day one in this country have been a disgrace. You're using taxpayers' money to subsidise the purchase of a vehicle, 95% of the buyers of which could have afforded without the subsidy. And I heard you and Jamie talking about it. If you're going out to... No one's subsidising the purchase of a $60,000 sedan that's got a petrol engine. But if you've got 60 grand to spend, you don't need the car subsidised. And as I've said to Minister Bowen and everybody else in the government who has an opinion on electric vehicles and the lobby groups and the Clean Energy Council and everybody else, if they're so good and if they make such a difference to everybody's life, let them do it without being subsidised. 45:53 The government hasn't come out in the last week and said, this new foldable Apple iPhone is unbelievable. We're going to subsidise them so everyone buys one. If it's good enough, everyone will buy it. If it's not, they won't. And electric cars should always have been like that. Now, the counter-argument, just quickly, because someone will send you a text message and go, oh, we subsidise dual-cab utes. No, we don't. The dual-cabs that get subsidised are not the ones that people buy. Yeah. So all the expensive ones that don't have a payload over 1,000 kilograms, so all of the expensive stuff, the Raptor and the high-end Hilux and all of those, they're not subsidised. 46:30 The ones that get subsidised are the ones that they don't buy for posing, that they actually buy for work. So the thought that you would just keep throwing taxpayer money to subsidise the vehicles, the running of the vehicles, the charging infrastructure, and so on and so on and so on, is outrageous. It's got to stop. 46:48 And that's coming from a man, as we've said plenty of times, who made the EV, the what, the Kia EV? Kia EV9. You made that your car of the year when you were running drive. That's right. And it became the world car of the year, the EV. 46:59 Well, we knew what we were talking about. 47:03 Exactly. 131873 is the number. There was, one of our listeners did make the point, we're already subsidising EVs, but as I've said here repeatedly, and I wish more people would latch onto this. Yes. 50:15 subsidised EVs because they're not paying any road tax like people that use petrol cars, but the point is that, and I've said this repeatedly, if you're driving a hybrid like me, you're using a third of the petrol of a car that weighs the same on the roads, you're paying a third of the petrol tax. You are. A petrol tax is a ridiculous tax that should have been replaced a long time ago. 50:32 It should have been replaced with a road user tax, because they call it an excise, but it's a tax, and it should have been replaced with a road user tax. But just to sum it up very quickly, thus far in Australia... The purchase of the vehicle has been subsidised. If you buy an EV, that's subsidised. If you decide to put a battery at home to charge it when off peak, that's subsidised, the installation of that. If you've used a lot of the public charging infrastructure that's been built around Australia, that's subsidised. And then you're also not paying a road user tax. It is completely and utterly outrageous that the free ride that anybody who owns an EV... 51:08 And I've even got people who own EVs, John, saying to me, you know what? You're right. It's a bit ridiculous. Like if they actually step outside themselves for a moment, they'll say to you, yeah, you're right. It's over the top. 51:19 All right. Let's go to a question I've got here from one of our listeners. I'm weighing up. The RAV4. Yep. This is the RAV4 GR, the Tucson Hybrid N-Line. Yes. And the WRX TS Wagon. With hybrids and plug-ins growing in popularity, what do you expect to happen to the resale value of petrol cars such as the WRX Wagon? 51:40 Yeah, look, the resale value of petrol cars, I think, will continue on the trajectory that it always has, especially things that are performance-based or a bit special, because it's fair to say that a WRX that you've got that's five or ten years old, we're unlikely ever to see that kind of vehicle again because of where we're going. So that's the first thing. I think you're a lot safer in predicting the value of a regular hybrid than you are either a plug-in hybrid or a pure EV. I think that tends to muddy the water a lot. If it was me at the moment right now, And I'm buying a medium SUV like a RAV4 and I'm the kind of person who's going to hang on to it for seven to 10 years. 52:21 I'm getting a regular hybrid. So the system Toyota's got, they have a plug-in hybrid RAV coming, but the system Toyota's got, there's a hybrid Hyundai, there's a hybrid Kia in those segments. That's what I'm getting. That's what I'm doing. Just a regular hybrid. Because as you've just said, you use half as much fuel as you would normally. 52:39 Because a friend of mine today, he's got, I think, maybe a five-, six-year-old RAV4. He's saying he's going to get a new one. Yes. 52:49 Probably a hybrid. And I asked him, because he's got a garage, so he could get a plug-in hybrid. Could, yeah, sure. But he does a lot of drives to Melbourne interstate. I said, you know what? Regular hybrid. I think the better one is the regular hybrid than the plug-in hybrid. Spot on. It's completely 100% tax-free paid on your gross pay. That tax exception from the Labor government means around $40,000 or less to the ATO in tax over a four-year lease. 53:41 Zero FPT on EVs means everyone will pay more tax in other ways to recover this to the ATO. We try to keep politics out of this segment as much as we can because it's boring. 56:18 No, you don't. I do. You love it. I do. I try to keep it out. And I stupidly raise things like the monstrous cars that you put on the rails. 56:25 It's like Goodfellas. Just when you thought you were out, they drag you back in. But the reality is that this is... 56:32 100% related to this government's rabid push to renewable energy and the green incentives. That's all it is. It's so that a minister can stand in front of us and say, we sold this many electric vehicles this month. Electric vehicles outsold those that didn't have electrification. We've done this. We've done that. To the point that's being made there, they don't want to talk about anything to do with the manufacturing that goes into them. And this is what I say all the time. To anybody who thinks electric vehicles are going to save the planet, what are they made of? 57:03 They're made of plastic, which is petroleum. They're made of metal like a regular car. They've got enormous battery packs that are full of lithium and cobalt and all of that stuff that's dug out of the ground, not with electric machinery. It's just complete and utter nonsense. And it's yet another example of the government pushing us down this path and spending our money to do it. 57:22 Look, I think, and the other thing, Sarah, I think, obviously, they want, in both sides of politics, we're talking about reducing emissions and getting electric cars. When the subsidies came in, the electric cars were significantly more expensive than the petrol cars. And I think two things happened toward the end of last year. We've talked about it. 57:41 Prices started to come down. 57:42 Because the cars were coming in from China. When the cars were coming down, I remember I said to you one night, the comparison suddenly, suddenly the cost of the electric cars had come right down. Starts to make sense. So at that point people started buying them and then we had the Iran war started and then petrol prices went up and that just turbocharged people taking them up. They don't need the subsidy. 58:06 Just quickly as well, is every government car electric yet? No. Don't be silly. My question is, with all the scammers going on now, and I don't trust anyone to give transfer money to buy a second-hand cow or a brand new one, can the dealers still accept a bank check? Some of the kids got upset and there were question marks about, is this appropriate? You know, people will sign up and they'll want to be a part of it, particularly now that she's on board. I mean, let's not pretend it's a great tabloid story, but at its heart, it's a very dark story because it either is true that a father is, was a pedophile and had this huge stash of of child abuse stuff, or he's an old man with dementia who's being hung out to dry and wrongly accused. So suddenly you've got to start doing retractions on the statement you've put out. It does seem to me that she seized upon the moment to make herself look better, make her image better. to explain why she's had no contact with her father. That's what it looked like to me. And I think with this story, bear in mind two things can be true at one time. He might be guilty and she might also be using the chance to redeem her public image as well. 114:06 Now, it's our Wednesday night entertainment report with Peter Ford. Peter, Walter Koenig. Now, of course, Star Trek over the decades, there's been so much Star Trek, but the original Star Trek back in the 1960s, still iconic. So Walter Koenig has died and left just two remaining original cast members. 114:23 Yeah, so he was Chekhov and he's died at the age of 90. And, you know, to be honest, he never went on to have an amazing career in terms of doing other things. That is quite a collision. So there is an expectation that that death toll will rise. They're also featuring, of course, the re-signing by the Dolphins of the Hammer. who has re-signed the fullback, very exciting player. I think Joe Hildebrand might have had something to do with it. It was leading up to one of the elections. I think it might have been the 2016 election. And the headline was, Save Our Elbow, when he was being challenged by a green in his seat of Graindler. Yeah. Telegraph wrote a save our elbow headline. Quite a leap because they're running stories on a daily basis about this Marrickville Golf Club controversy. 125:09 It's all to do with the reference to sewerage works attached to this $6 million grant, which weren't in the federal grant. There was some work which came out of a state grant, and this has been described as Anthony Albanese's golf course sewage bungle. Gotten Murkier, Senior Cabinet Minister, accused of misleading the Parliament and facing demands to apologise. This all happened on the weekend, her comments, but this is now being revived. He now has to be asked when he was informed that sewerage works weren't part of the $6 million cash injection to the clubhouse at the Marrickville Golf Club. 125:42 Remembering, in that week of September, he was being asked questions about this. He was saying, and he did say, it was for sewerage works, and he said that he... 125:52 had an honorary membership and didn't have much to do with the club. Remembering all of this started with an ABC report, which seems to have been forgotten. In the ABC report, it described part of the reasons for the grant as being for septic work. But the ABC got it wrong. Maybe that's where all this started. So it is an ongoing issue. I think the bigger question is the whole grant scheme, which was dodgy. 126:16 described as grey corruption. The whole grant scheme has been called into question by Helen Haynes. 126:23 I haven't heard anyone calling for the golf club in Helen Haynes electorate, which sparked all of this because it was saying, why aren't we getting some assistance? We've got asbestos through our clubhouse. No-one's talking about trying to do some assist and maybe take up the cause that she was taking up at the time. And maybe we can have our political leaders, both sides, say... 126:45 We'd like Helen Haynes to put forward her bill that she put in, I think it was a year ago, getting rid of these grants and making them all independent and getting rid of all the pork barrelling. She put a bill into the parliament and the major party said, oh, no thanks, because Labor doesn't want it to stop happening. Maybe she ought to get ahead of the game and start preparing it. Now, the Sydney Morning Herald, front page... 130:04 Israel and the world hold their breath. This was prepared some hours ago. Benjamin Netanyahu, quick to jump on early exit polls, which were showing him in a better position than he is now. It's really tightening up. A Knesset majority looks unlikely, so they're going to have to negotiate something in Israel. I don't think anyone can make any clear prediction about that tonight, but that's on the front page there. This is an important one from Shane Wright and Brittany Bush. It says Treasurer Jim Chalmers is considering cuts to infrastructure projects to ease pressure on the economy after new inflation figures all but guaranteed an interest rate rise next Tuesday. 130:41 Under mounting political and economic pressure after the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported monthly inflation climbed to a higher than expected 4.3% in September, Chalmers revealed Custer Government spending, including on infrastructure, were being considered as part of a mid-year budget savings package. 130:57 Now, I'm just going through having a look at all of this. You get the usual calculations of what the impact will be if interest rates go up by another quarter of a percent. I'm just having a look here as to whether there's any indication about where that cut might occur. 131:12 According to this story, it says, "...in the government's first term, it aroused the ira of the states by saving up to $33 billion by axing 50 yet-to-be-started infrastructure projects expected to suffer blowouts in their construction costs." So there might be further costs in these infrastructure spins. So that's what they're targeting. I know the opposition leader came up with a whole range of other things today. So we'll see what comes of that. That's on the front page of the Herald. And just on those inflation numbers, the Australian earlier today in pulling the inflation numbers together, it pulled together a list of the things that were pushing inflation up. 131:53 digging into the figures. When you went into the figures, you saw petrol prices were the thing that was the highest. It was nearly 24%, up 24% because I've seen this big jump in petrol prices. There was energy prices. There were a few other things as well. But what stuck out for me, and I'd be interested to see the impact it has on the inflation rate, it said that Tobacco, smoking, the cost of cigarettes was up by more than 8%. 132:25 And I'm looking at that and I'm thinking, well, that's presumably because we've had excise up. The excise went up and so people are paying 8% more for their smokes. 132:35 But as we know, if the ABS is working that out on the basis of sales of legal cigarettes, you've got probably half the community now who want to smoke cigarettes smoking the illegal stuff. 132:51 So that's probably not showing up in the ABS figures, but it does push up inflation. So I'd love to know what contribution that has to inflation. I'm not sure how accurate any of these numbers are, but they are what they are. Now, the front page of The Australian, their headline says, Charade of Savings as Price Rises. Jim Chalmers refusing to commit to spending less than he saves in the mid-year budget update next month, despite inflation running above expectation and the intensifying chances of a fifth interest rate hike on Melbourne Cup Day. 133:22 He is talking about potential cuts to infrastructure, but he's asked, well, will you spend less than you save? So if you save money, are you going to end up spending some of it? And he wouldn't commit himself to that. So they've got all the detail there from today. They've also got this one on the front page. It says Victorian leaders. This is an ad that's been put together by Victorian leaders, a whole range of them. They've put their faces and they've got their signatures there. 133:50 across business, sport, media and tech, joining together in a revolt over poor financial management at a debt bill approaching $200 billion by 2030, urging political parties to outline how they'll assure the state's financial future. This is 100 of the state's most prominent identities. 134:11 It's a rare intervention, they say. Echoes the cross-sector call for a royal commission to do anti-Semitism. Was coordinated by the Sikh founder, Paul Bassett's pro-business advocacy group, Amplify, and represents a considerable escalation of sporting identities such as Toby Green, Grant Hackett and Gerard Healy. So they're involved in this as well. 134:32 All talking about the need to do something about spending and the state debt in Victoria. 134:38 Now, a lot of people have been saying that the Victorian opposition that's leading in the polls, likely to win a government and in their own right, hasn't talked enough about doing a Geoff Kennett-style cut of spending. Maybe that's where all of that is aimed, at 22 past 11 or 10 in Queensland. And they've got this one on their front page as well. This is a report. It's been described as a long secret report. 135:05 Now, it's important to follow this because we know that in the Brereton report that came out in 2020... 135:25 It revealed credible information that SAS personnel had murdered 39 Afghan civilians and had a lot of detail there. It found no evidence that commanders knew of war crimes or were recklessly indifferent to what was going on. But this report, which was quietly released according to Australia this afternoon, It was commissioned by the former Defence Chief Angus Campbell in 2021, says the alleged unlawful killings reveal, quote, "...a breakdown of command and an absence of consistently applied effective leadership over an extended period." And it does say that they found that leaders, new standards were slipping but failed to act. 136:07 And it talked about how there were significant spikes in the number of dead insurgents but almost no wounded. 136:17 and accepted corrupted reports that fleeing civilians were actually legitimate targets. Now, what is important also here, it does talk about the potential involvement and potential negligence by commanders of the SAS to deal with this, but it also says, importantly... So it's important to look at all those quotes and all that history. Evening, John. All right, so it is a situation. You've got to go through a lot of hoops. It is compassionate grounds. You've got to demonstrate you have an urgent need, either because of dire financial circumstances or a medical procedure. And this, it seems, is all focusing on dental. 146:54 Well, yeah, I mean, this is the one that we've seen an enormous increase in over the past six to seven years, probably 13 times as much money is being taken out of super early to pay for dental treatments compared to six or seven years ago. And what that points to is that there's a number of sort of unscrupulous dental practices that are targeting people's super to do major dental work, very expensive treatments, sometimes purely for cosmetic reasons, which is not... in the spirit of the early access to super scheme, which is meant to be for people in acute or chronic pain, suffering from mental illness or other sort of serious illnesses and issues. 147:37 And so the ATO is really trying to crack down on this one. 147:39 Yeah, because if you've got a serious issue with your teeth, it can have a massive effect on your overall health and your mental health as well. So there's a very good argument for doing it. I mean, there's an argument that Medicare should be spread across to dental as well. So that's what's happening. People can do it. And I think people are starting to become aware of it. But if it's being exploited by businesses, that's not good at all. 148:05 That's right. The ATO is just saying, look out for the red flags, which is, you know, if businesses are advertising on social media, saying that they'll apply to the ATO on your behalf, if they use telehealth appointments, not in-person appointments, and they prefer your super to a payment plan, for example, and they're charging you fees to apply to the ATO on your behalf, these are all red flags that suggest they may not be operating in your best interests. 148:28 And so, yeah, you've got to be careful. 148:30 And they might be overcharging and it might be for something that isn't really a medical issue. And they're saying, don't worry, we'll organise it, we'll do the application and you'll be able to get the money out of your super and you pay the price down the track. So that's a worthwhile one because it's a double-edged sword, isn't it? We do need to make sure people who are in desperate trouble do know they can access their super early if they're really in trouble in terms of being able just to make their ends meet or hang on to their house or have that medical treatment. but you don't want them being exploited. 149:01 That's terrible. 149:01 Yeah, I mean, it's our money at the end of the day, and that's why super is, you know, there's a lot of live debates around super, around whether we should be able to access more of it as first home buyers to buy a home, for example, in the view of the Coalition, or One Nation wants to give people access to more of their super. You know, these are all important debates to be had. You know, some people have said in recent days, one of the big industry super fund bosses said, Why can't people who are in severe rental arrears access their super to help with that, whereas homeowners can access it if they're at risk of foreclosure? 149:31 So there's some important debates there, but we just need to make sure that wherever there's a big pot of money, there's going to be unscrupulous businesses and scammers who are going after it, and we need to protect people from that. Very good point. 149:42 Now, one thing we have said here repeatedly, and this is one of the themes, I guess the overall theme of your advice to everyone is shop around on every count and you have to do it regularly, three months, six months, check your various insurances, whatever else they are. And so energy is one that we need to be checking every three to six months. And you're highlighting that there's quite a few energy providers that are providing what they call welcome credits. So if you switch to them, then you work out, all right, how much extra am I going to save with that welcome credit and their rates? 150:15 Yeah, that's right. Actually, there's actually a new rule in the energy market that only came in on, I think, the 1st of July, which says they can only raise your prices once a year now. And what that means is you've really only just got to look at your plan once a year. Once you're on to a good plan, you can kind of sit pretty for 12 months. Then you should probably look at it again when they change the pricing. And at the moment, it's a really good time to do so because we've seen a massive inflation in the energy credits, the welcome credits that energy retailers are offering for switches. There are multiple, probably a dozen providers offering hundreds of dollars in credits potentially to new customers. 150:51 Some are even offering $300 or $400 if you switch your electricity and your gas across. 150:57 In New South Wales, for example, NG, Power Shop, AGL and Origin all offering $300 to $400 on electricity and gas. So that's a pretty good sweetener as long as the rest of the deal looks good as well and the rates are competitive. 151:14 Yeah, and you're also making the point that you need to read the fine print because in some cases they're saying if you've been a customer before, you're not eligible. So it may be if you've switched a couple of times, there'll be a couple of retailers that will be off limits for you. 151:29 Yeah, there are people out. I call them the credit collectors. There are people out there who do jump from retailer to retailer every six months or so to collect these credits. And good luck to them. You can do that. But they will sometimes, individual retailers, stop you from getting a credit if you've had one in the past year from them or if you've had one before, full stop. So do read the fine print just so you know if you're eligible or not. But by all means, get one of these credits and then think about switching again in six or 12 months and collecting another one. 151:59 And so I think Canstar's done a comparison, as you've said. So you can go and have a look there to work out whether it's better to take the welcome credit or a particular plan. It's increasingly hard, but if you do your homework, as you've said, you are going to get yourself a better deal. 152:18 Yeah, that's right. There's two things you need to look at now, really. You need to look at that. We've talked before about how, you know, there's this government comparison price and the retailer will tell you how the rates on their plan compare to the government comparison price. Is it 10% less than the comparison price? 152:35 ideally 15 or 20% less than the comparison price, that's still a really important bit of information because you're going to be stuck with those rates for at least 12 months. 152:45 And if you can get a sign-up credit on top of a good discount off the comparison price, that's the gold standard really, isn't it, if you can have your cake and eat it too. 152:55 All right. And without being a bore, I say it every time we talk, make sure you've got those fuel apps to see where the cheapest fuel is. There's no really cheap fuel anywhere, but you can find the cheapest in your area if you use those fuel apps. And I know everyone who listens to the show, I'm sure, knows by now, but there's still a lot of people out there that aren't doing it. So worth repeating it, isn't it? 153:15 Absolutely. And so if your retailer's offering – you're with someone and you find they're offering $300 or $400 bonus or incentive for someone as a new customer, and when they say new customers only – Well, what you do is you all go somewhere else. So you do switch as opposed to the loyalty bonuses, and you do get those. 154:27 I'd actually like someone, we might do it, and maybe it's very late in the day, explain to me the no-claim bonus, which we're told the no-claim bonus that works with insurance And I've never quite understood how that works when you haven't issued a claim.
